GDPR

rights

Your rights if you live in the EU or UK

If you live in the European Union or United Kingdom, you have extra protections under GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) when it comes to your personal information (which the GDPR refers to as “personal data”).

Why I collect your information

I collect, use and store your personal information so I can provide my services and keep you updated about them. Here’s the legal basis I rely on:

  • When it’s necessary for our contract

This covers collecting your details so I can send you work or provide my services.

  • When you’ve given me permission

If you’ve agreed to something specific (like email newsletters or mobile notifications), I’ll use your personal information only for what you agreed.

  • When it’s in my legitimate business interests

This includes website analytics and usage statistics so I can improve my services to you.

Your GDPR rights

Living in the EU or UK gives you these rights:

  • Right to be informed

That’s what this privacy policy is about.

  • Right of access

You can ask to see what information I have about you.

  • Right to rectification

You can ask me to fix incorrect information.

  • Right to object

You can refuse to allow certain uses of your information.

  • Right to restriction

You can ask me to limit how I use your information.

  • Right to erasure

You can ask me to delete your information (also known as “the right to be forgotten”).

  • Right to data portability

You can ask for your information in a format you can use elsewhere.

  • Right not to be subject to automated processing

You can refuse important decisions being made about you by computers alone.

Want to use any of these rights? Contact me and I’ll sort it out.

Changing your mind

You can withdraw your consent for me to collect or use your personal information at any time. Here’s how:

  • Email newsletters: Click unsubscribe in any email
  • Everything else: Contact me directly, either via the contact form on this website, or emailing me kate@katecrockercopywriter.com.au

If you withdraw consent, you may not be able to access all my services. Sometimes I may still need to process your information for legal reasons or to keep my services secure, but I’ll only do this when I have a proper legal basis.

Keeping your information safe

I follow GDPR rules for collecting, using and storing personal information from EU and UK residents. This means:

  • All your information is treated as confidential
  • It’s stored securely and only accessed by authorised people (usually only me)
  • I only collect what I need
  • I only keep it as long as necessary
  • I use proper technical and security measures to protect against unauthorised access, loss, damage or theft
  • Your information is encrypted, or I use pseudonyms, and I have adequate cybersecurity measures in place.

Sharing with third parties outside the EU/UK

Sometimes I need to share your information with service providers outside the EU or UK to provide my services. When I do this, I ensure they’re also GDPR compliant.

Complaints

If you think I’ve handled your information incorrectly or you’re not happy with my response to your requests, you can lodge a complaint with the Australian Information Commissioner.
